One has a effect on the other. We do sometimes see motivation as something that stimulates a person to act and behave to achieve a desired goal, while emotion is the feelings that appear from the motive or drive itself, from the actions caused by the motive and from the accomplishment or failure of the desired goal. However, there is more to motivation and emotion than this kind of relationship. Emotion and motivation are informally related. Anything that motivates you most likely moves you emotionally to. Any event that causes strong emotions is likely to motivate you, either to a echo of the event or toward delay of it. The words emotion and motivation are also related etymologically (history of language). Motive, motus - to move comes from Latin.
